SUSTAINABILITY

ANDREWSUSTAINABILITY2.png

No matter which way you slice it; pun intended, Clothing has been made the same way for a long time. Textiles are purchased in large sheets, and patterns are cut from these.

Though there's been a lot of progress made in limiting waste during this process; you're still left with an obscene amount of scraps that are generally not recyclable; and if they are, need to be transported to another facility to do so.

This involves fuel for transportation and energy for processing the materials again. Great measures have been taken in developing more sustainable materials such as hemp. And this is great but the process is still generally the same.

Some large u.k. and united states based companies have been investing in vertical integration to bring these processes of recycling and textile development in house. And though people may not want to hear It. Almost ironically, the best way currently to eliminate waste in the industry is to develop synthetic materials which can be printed, knitted or woven in the exact amount needed to make a product and fed directly back into a machine on premises to recycle and produce more.

The fact that things have been done the same way, for so long, is the industry's greatest hurdle. Most of the biggest company's use upwards of 100 different facilities to manufacture!

This leaves room for lack of oversight and miscommunication on sustainability practices. Just as sweet wants to bring this in home and build our products from the ground up And invest everything we can to be at the forefront of this developing technology and partner with those who are doing the same.
